Walk A Mile In Her Shoes® 2022

What is Walk A Mile In Her Shoes®?

Walk A Mile In Her Shoes® has been a fundraising event facilitated in the community for over the last decade. The event has been postponed for the last two years due to Covid-19, and this year we will be resuming Walk A Mile In Her Shoes®. Historically, participants have met at a space such as Downtown Belleville; this year we will be hosting the main event on June 29 is just east of the former Cheese Producers Ball Diamond off Keegan Parkway in Belleville at 6 p.m. If participants cannot make this date, they are encouraged to arrange a group to do the walk together at a time that best suits their schedule during the last 2 weeks of June.

Both men and women are encouraged to participate in Walk A Mile In Her Shoes®. Men will be provided with a pair of red high-heels to strut their stuff to raise awareness about violence against women. This year’s theme: Calling Out Violence Against Women. Cancel culture is a recent trend in society where a group collectively decides to call-out and not tolerate a person. While this can be a controversial topic, we would like to use cancel culture as an opportunity to exclude violence against women in our community and collectively vocalize that it is not welcome to persist. We are calling out this societal issue.

Women will walk in support of the men advocating and will contribute to raising awareness. Each individual who participates in Walk A Mile In Her Shoes® will be provided with a pledge sheet in which they will use to record those who support the participants along with the amounts that they have pledged. Funds collected by participants will go towards supporting Three Oaks Foundation and the women and children who access our services.

How do I get involved?

To get involved, participants will fill out a registration form, which can be found on this page. The general registration fee for each individual is $25 and can be paid in cash, E-Transfer to events@threeoaks.ca, or by cheque. Forward the link to friends or family to ask if they would like to get involved, or to pledge you funds in support of this cause. The pledges will be recorded on a pledge sheet, which can also be downloaded on this page. You will choose the date that you and your group would like between June 16th-30th, 2022 to strut your stuff in a pair of red high heals. Shoes will be arranged to be picked up with the coordinator, Kaitlyn (kaitlync@threeoaks.ca or 613-242-6524) and you can choose your own location.

The History Walk A Mile In Her Shoes®

Beginning in 2010, Royal LePage ProAlliance through the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation worked tirelessly to raise funds in support of Three Oaks Foundation through many events including Walk A Mile In Her Shoes®. In 2017, Three Oaks proudly to hosted our very own Walk A Mile In Her Shoes® and for the first time, the licence and rights to Walk A Mile In Her Shoes® belonged to Three Oaks. As the only shelter in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties mandated and funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services to provide shelter and programs for women and their children fleeing their homes dues to domestic violence, Three Oaks relies on the support of our community each and every day to help us make this happen. In the words of Margaret Meade: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”
